Solar Powered Internet of Things
The whole world is buzzing about the Internet of Things and lots of nifty projects are made with the confort of having mains power close by. But what if you go outdoors. How do you run these devices autonomously? SODAQ is a startup company that is specialised in Solar Powered IoT projects based on Arduino Technology. This talk is about how to use solar power in your projects and how to make you systems run as efficiently on the power it has. The talk will cover how you make efficient use of the sleep possibilities. We talk about microsleeps whereby we wake for instance every second to look if something needs to be done. This way easily 99% of the power can be saved.
Jan Willem Smeenk
Jan Willem Smeenk has been an Internet pioneer since the early 1990's. He one of the co-founders of Booking.com and moved to Africa in 1998 establishing the Internet in Tanzania and founded the Tanzania Internet eXchange (TIX). Since his return to Holland in 2010 he has been involved in IoT projects and helped establishing SODAQ. His vision is to connect even the world's extremities to the Internet.
